Trade Tribunal Decisions and Environmental Protections Update
The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) determined that there is no reasonable indication that the dumping and subsidizing of renewable diesel from the U.S. have caused or threaten to cause injury to the domestic industry, leading to the termination of the preliminary injury inquiry and related investigations. The CITT rescinded its order concerning the dumping of certain steel plates from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, and Romania. An expiry review of carbon steel screws from China and Taiwan is initiated to assess the likelihood of continued dumping or subsidizing and its potential impact on the domestic industry. An inquiry into the dumping of corrosion-resistant steel sheets from Türkiye is underway to determine if it has caused or threatens to cause injury. Appeals are scheduled regarding the classification of basic mattresses and surgical table covers under the Customs Act. A preliminary injury inquiry is initiated for certain carbon or alloy steel wire from multiple countries to assess potential injury to the domestic industry. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has posted applications for renewal or amendment and administrative decisions on its website. The critical habitat of the Eastern Banded Tigersnail in Point Pelee National Park is identified, and protections will apply under the Species at Risk Act. The Public Service Commission of Canada has granted permission and leave for Najam Shahzad Chaudhry to run as a candidate in a federal election. [Source]
Prospera and Sunshine Coast Credit Unions Consider Amalgamation with Coast Capital Savings
Fairstone Bank of Canada has relocated its designated office for enforcement notices to 145 King Street West, Suite 2300, Toronto, Ontario. Prospera Credit Union members will vote on a special resolution to become a federal credit union under the Bank Act and amalgamate with Coast Capital Savings Federal Credit Union and Sunshine Coast Credit Union, forming an Amalgamated Federal Credit Union. This change will affect deposit insurance coverage, transitioning from the Credit Union Deposit Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (CUDIC) to the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC). CUDIC currently insures the full amount of eligible deposits, while CDIC insures up to $100,000 per category per institution. A transition period will allow pre-existing deposits to retain CUDIC-level coverage temporarily. The amalgamation requires approval from members and regulatory bodies, and the continuation and amalgamation day will mark the start of CDIC coverage. Sunshine Coast Credit Union members will also vote on a similar resolution, with the same implications for deposit insurance coverage. The amalgamation will proceed if at least two of the three credit unions, including Coast Capital Savings, approve. [Source]
